The Executive Director’s Visit to Liberia
Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on September 12, 2004
The Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Paul Yeenie Harry, visited his home country, Liberia, in June of this year. He returned to Poland in August.
Mr. Harry used the visit to see his family whom he had not seen for more than two years due the intensity of the civil war that was raging in his country. He also used the occasion to, through the help of the officials of the Help Liberia Foundation branch on the ground, enhance the foundation’s operations and viability in Liberia. In essence, the following things were done:
- The foundation was legally registered in Liberia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia. The documents for the legal process were prepared by the Sherman & Sherman Associates, one of the most leading law firms in Liberia.
- Help Liberia Foundation in Liberia was accredited by the Ministry of Planning and Economics Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, officially recognizing the foundation as a legal and genuine not-for-profit charity organization operating in Liberia. To confirm this status, the foundation was awarded a certificate of accreditation. (May soon be posted on the website)
- The foundation was able to register with LINNKS (Liberian NGO-Networks), the umbrella organization of all local NGOs operating in the Republic of Liberia. This organization also conducts different workshops, seminars, programs, networking, etc. for local NGOs registered with it.
- An office space for the foundation was acquired in Monrovia. The office is located on the first floor of the Luke Building on Broad Street, the most important street in Monrovia. Six-month rent was paid. The office has a computer and a few office supplies. The office is in need of many other basic office equipment and supplies. Can anyone help, please? - Additionally, more people expressed their desire to work for the Foundation as volunteers. Two of these people are Ms. Garmai Wilson, Chief Accountant at the University of Liberia, and Mr. Moses Washington, a student at the University of Liberia. Their coming on board is a great blessing to the operation of the Foundation in Liberia.
- The Executive Director visited and preached at different churches and ministries, with the sole purpose of identifying as many churches as possible in implementing the evangelistic programs of the foundation. All of the churches and ministries visited are willing and ready to be involved in nation-wide evangelism. May the Holy Spirit guide the process.
- Mr. Harry also had a well publicized meeting with young pastors, evangelists, ministers and church leaders from about 30 different churches and ministries. The meeting took place in the city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, about 150km from Monrovia. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with the participants the possibility of working together in carrying out effective evangelistic campaigns in Liberia and also to identify the appropriate strategies that can consummate the plan. It was a successful meeting. The meeting was organized through the help of Pastor Samuel Nimely, Minister of the Jubilee Fellowship Ministry in Buchanan.
- Mr. Harry and Mr. Kulee visited many schools, some at which Mr. Harry served as guest speaker. They also discussed with the authorities and accessed the needs of the schools visited for possible humanitarian assistance for the children who attend these schools. Most of the school facilities are in deplorable conditions. Most of the children come from poor families. Could anyone be of help to these unfortunate children?
- The Executive Director also visited many villages and towns in the countryside. The purpose of these visits was to identify the possibility of educational opportunities for the unfortunate children who live in these areas as well as evangelistic opportunities among the residents and the few churches that are there. Most of the villages and towns have scores of young people who have never entered school before. Indeed, these children are “wasting.” This is one reason why they were easily manipulated and exploited during the Liberian Civil War.
We are grateful to the Almighty God for the safe trip the Director made to Liberia and back to Poland, especially for finding his family safe and healthy. We are also thankful to God for Mr. Henry Kulee, the Coordinator of Liberia, for the great work that he is doing in the interest of the foundation. There will be more articles on Mr. Harry’s recent visit.
