HLF's Board President Attends NGO Conference in Warsaw

The President of the Board of Directors of Help Liberia Foundation, Mrs. Anna Dobrowolska, attended a three-day conference about NGO development and management, from 8-10 September 2004.

The conference, whose theme was “Managing Finances in NGOs,” was held in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Participants included presidents, accountants, chief executives, etc., of different NGOs in Poland. Mrs. Dobrowolska who represented Help Liberia Foundation received a special certificate of participation.

The three-day conference was organized by the Foundation for Development of Civil Society and co-sponsored by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and the Leopold Kronenberg Bank Foundation.

Many different topics were discussed during the conference, some of which include the following:

1. Accountancy for non-profit organizations
2. Budget planning for NGOs
3. Legal aspects for NGO operations
4. Organizations for public benefit— Pros and Cons
5. Rules and regulations NGO accountancy in Poland
6. Computer programs for bookkeeping in NGOs

Some of the lecturers/facilitators at the conference were Mr. Josef Marzec of the Polish Economic Society, who spoke on Principles of accountancy for NGOs; Mrs. Katarzyna Adamska-Dutkiewicz, Chief Accountant of the Foundation for Civil Society Development, who spoke on Problems associated with NGO Bookkeeping, Donation Report Writing, etc.; and Ms. Katarzyna Juldo of the same foundation, who had a lecture on NGO Budgeting.
