An African Evening Program was held on September 24, 2004, in “Café Rose” in Gorlice, Poland. The program included an exhibition of pictures from Liberia (taken by Mr. Paul Yeenie Harry and Mr. Henry Kulee), a talk about Liberia, quizzing section, presentation of African dishes, music and dances.
The program, which was engineered by Mrs. Anna Kopacz, Assistant Executive Director of HLF, began with the reading of some African poems, by some high school students, after which Mr. Paul Yeenie Harry talked about Liberia— its history, culture and problems, etc.

The owner of the restaurant, Mrs. Iwona Klecha, who was also the sponsor of the program, prepared delicious African dishes (the recipes were given by HLF). The guests were able to try fu-fu, meat soup, banana cakes and African sweets. They were also shown how to eat their meals with hands. Everyone followed the instructions and had a lot of fun.

After the meal there was a quizzing section – the participants had to answer questions about Liberia. Those who gave accurate answers were given African sculptures and jewelry as presents. The prizes aroused lots of emotions, as everybody wanted to get something from Africa.
Mrs. Anna Kopacz, Assistant Executive Director of HLF, is reading an excerpt from a book (“A Reporter’s Self-Portrait”) about Africa, written by the famous Polish journalist, Ryszard Kapuscinski.
At the end of the program, participants danced to some traditional Liberian music. Besides, they donated some money to the foundation. HLF has been asked to organize a similar program in the same café in summer.
