HLF Visits School In Szymbark

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on February 12, 2005

On December 14, 2004, HLF was invited to the only primary and junior high school in Szymbark, a village near Gorlice, in order to do a presentation about Africa (Liberia, in particular) and also about the Foundation.

The program, which was attended by students and staff members (including the Headmaster), was arranged by the head of the English Department at the school, Mrs. Barbara Lewinska.

After a warm welcome meeting with the Headmaster and the staff members, the HLF representatives (Mrs. Anna Dobrowolska and Paul Yeenie Harry) met with the students. The presentation was divided into two parts, one for the junior high students, and another for the primary students. The talk for the older children was conducted in English.

Mr. Paul Yeenie Harry told them about Liberia, its people, tribes, native languages, culture and the everyday life of its citizens, especially children. At the end of the presentation the children asked questions about Liberia. The talk for the younger children was translated into Polish. The kids asked tens of surprisingly sophisticated questions; they wanted to know almost everything. They were also great listeners. The kids were so interested in Liberia that they didn’t want to let the HLF representatives leave the meeting hall. It was really fantastic!

During the presentations the school children and the teachers collected some money, which was later donated to HLF.
