HLF Organizes African Evening At Mala Galeria

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on May 29, 2005

Help Liberia Foundation, in collaboration with the management of Mala Galeria in Nowy Sacz, organized an African Evening at the premises of the Gallery on Tuesday, 24 May 2005.

The main purpose of the program was to create awareness about the Foundation’s existence and activities and to raise funds for the implementation of its programs.

The head of the gallery, Ms. Alicja Hebda, commenced the program by welcoming the guests, mentioning the purpose of the program and introducing the President of the Board. The gallery’s head then wished the guests a happy stay and took her seat.

Ms. Anna Dobrowolska, the President of the Board, then took the floor to do a presentation about Liberia and the Foundation, which was followed by a question-answer session. She started with the introduction of the Executives of HLF, and smoothly glided into the actual presentation. Her presentation, especially about Liberia, was so comprehensive that the guests joked: “You are really an expert on Liberia.”

After the presentation ended, the entertaining part — a concert of African and Ethnic Music — was performed by the TAMTAMITUTU Band from Krakow. The group traveled from Krakow to Nowy Sacz to help raise funds for the Foundation.

Pict010.JPG In this picture is Anita Chakrabarti (an Indian living and working in Poland at the moment). The great smile on her face is a result of the excitement she gets from the task assigned her — She is aked by the Head of the Band to help, by playing the musical instrument you see in her hands. Were her hands tired after a few minutes? Guess for yourself! :))

The program was attended by officials of HLF, officials of the gallery, representative of the Unique Brands firm, residents of Nowy Sacz and Gorlice, including students and teachers.

Unique Brands is a Polish business which buys African artifacts, especially from Ghana and Burkina Faso, and sell them in Poland and other parts of Europe. They help the Foundation with some of these materials from time to time.

The management of Unique Brands donated some African artifacts to the Foundation, which were used to raised funds. It was organized in such a way that those who needed an artifact had to put in some money in the collection box to have the chance to take an item.

Those who thought that the African Evening would have ended at the end of the concert soon realized that they were wrong, as it was the beginning of a night-long barbecue party, which was held at the residence of the President.

Pict006.JPG Hmm! The Barbecue Party is about to start; let’s see what happens next!

Pict004.JPG Wow! The party has already started, and the Executives of HLF can’t wait to see the fun and eat-what-you-are-able-to-eat activities pass by without having a share of it! Did each of these three Executives eat more than four huge pieces of meat and five large pieces of Kielbasa (Sausage, in Polish)? We are not in the position to answer this question! :)) One thing that is certain in this picture is that the Executive Director is not part of this “huge eating!” :)))

Pict007.JPG Happy people? But what do you expect to see after hours of music and dancing and eating and…, if not scenes like this one? :))

We express our sincere thanks to all those who helped to make the African evening a successful one. We also thank everyone for their moral anf financial support.
