Thanks a million for your timely X-mas gifts to the kids in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. The gift came at the time when the kids needed it so desperately. The children and their parents want us to convey to the Board, the Management Team, the national leadership of HLF, as well as the donors for this magnanimous gesture. Thanks again for responding so generously and timely.

The distribution went on smoothly and was a scene full of excitements. Both the parents and the kids were in a happy mood as they beamed with smiles on their faces.

After the distribution, the Principal of Help Liberia Foundation Community School, Mr. Nimely, joyously remarked, “We are very happy and proud of all of you, including the donors, for bringing smiles on the faces of the kids and their parents.”

The X-mas gifts brought relief to the parents and saved them some costs associated with buying clothes for their children. This is the general impression we got from the distribution. So, the gifts really made some significant impact. If it continues like this, we might not have space for more and more children who would want to attend the school. The point I’m making is that the news will go far and wide because parents, who are unemployed and unable to send their children to school, love to send their kids to a school were they would receive some kind of help.

As you already know, there are thousands of Liberian parents who cannot afford to send their kids to school, not even the cheapest schools in town. This is so because between 70 - 75 percent of the country’s population has no job. There’s virtually no private sector, and the government (the single largest employer), which pays its employees the least salaries in most cases, usually pays for three main days of the year – for July 26, for December 25 and for January 1. The UN Mission in Liberia and the few INGOs are temporarily helping with the situation.

So, to have HLF helping Liberian kids at this time of the year puts a lot of smiles on people’s faces; it brings them happiness. X-mas gift is one thing the kids don’t spare their parents for, even if the parents don’t have the money for it. The moment they see their friends’ parents buying clothes and other gifts for them, they too begin to frown and cry until they have them. This is how important your help was (and still is).

We recognize your eagerness to help our poor children, and we will continue to rally around our Executive Director, Mr. Harry, in order to help you help us. Please continue the good work you have started.
