Child’s Day in Africa: Polish Students Collect Money for Vaccination of African Children

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on July 02, 2006

A one-month action, called Child’s Day in Africa, organized by Polish students, has been held in Poland.

The aim of the action was to support the UNICEF POLAND campaign called “A Pass to Life.” The goal of the campaign was to collect funds for the purchase of vaccinations for children in Sierra Leone.

In an effort to ensure the success of the campaign, a series of different events were organized – concerts, workshops, lectures about Africa, picture exhibitions, etc. Those participating in these events were African diplomats in Poland, Africans living in Poland, non-Africans who have either worked or lived in Africa, and non-Africans dealing with Africa.

Help Liberia Foundation, among other institutions, was invited to do a presentation at one of the workshops held in Krakow, Poland, during the first week of June. The purpose of the workshop, which took place in the student center – Pod Jaszczurami – in the Market Square, was to present some information on the different aspects of African history and culture, as well as to inform the audience about the How and Why to help Africans.

Mrs. Anna Dobrowolska, President of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, gave a lecture on Liberia and the Foundation’s activities in Liberia. The lecture was accompanied by exhibition of pictures from Liberia. The audience was so interested in the lecture that some expressed their desire to cooperate with the Foundation.

The workshop, which was climaxed by a concert conducted by the TAMTAMITUTU and AFRO BAKAN groups, and a disco led by DJs from Sudan, brought together students, leaders of various organizations, performers, diplomats, etc.

We are very proud that our foundation could take part in the event and present its activities in Liberia, one of the neighboring countries of Sierra Leone.
