HLF School Gets Face-lift

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on July 17, 2007

Help Liberia Foundation School is preparing to close for the 2006/2007 academic year next Sunday. It is also, at the same time, planning for the reopening of its doors to the kids in September. In the wake of these two developments, some renovation work has been done on the school building.

Although the outer surface of the entire school building has been given a face-lift before July 29 closing program, the building is actually being prepared for the next school year, which starts in September this year. We want the kids to be in a better learning environment when they return in September.

But there still are many other problems before us that need to be tackled. For instance, the interior of the building, including the classrooms, has not been painted. Besides, the school does not have enough desks for the children to use. Also, instructional materials are in limited supply. These things, and many more, are needed before the start of the new school year. The foundation is soliciting assistance for the items mentioned. If you are out there and can donate them, or help with funds for us to purchase them, we will appreciate it very much. We need about 75 desks for the kids for the new school year. Two students sit at one desk. One desk costs about $10.

Moreover, since the kids in our school come from poor background, we want to purchase school supplies such as backpacks, copybooks, pencils, sharpeners and erasers and give them to the kids, free of charge, before they can start school in September. We are, therefore, appealing to all individuals and organizations of good will to help us to help the kids.

Besides, we want the kids to start using uniform starting from September. And, again, the burden is on us, as we have to help them to get the uniform because we are aware that their parents will not be able to afford it. About US$20 can provide a set of uniform for a child. Therefore, we are also appealing for assistance for the purchase of uniforms for the kids.

If you are out there – whether a person or an organization – and you have the desire to help us with any of the things mentioned in this article, please feel free to do so, as your assistance will help us to better help the needy kids. Your assistance will definitely make a major difference in the programs we are trying to implement. Providing education for unfortunate kids is our main goal.

Finally, we express gratitude to all those who are helping us one way or the other at the moment, especially those who directly sponsor some of the kids and those who give funds periodically. Their contributions have helped the foundation to achieve some of its goals.
