HLF Carries Out Renovation and Construction Work

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on December 29, 2007

The foundation has done some major renovation and construction work on and around the school building. The work has been to in order to improve the interior of the building and make it a better place to impact and acquire knowledge, as well as provide additional facilities for the school.

The renovation work, among other things, include the fixing of the administrative office, placing of table and shelves in the office, fixing of two storerooms, fixing of additional desks for the classrooms, fixing of additional blackboards and strengthening of the windows. A two-room toilet is also under construction.

Bulk of the funds for fixing the classroom desks were provided by Mr. David Turner, one of the foundation’s most active sponsors. Mr. Turner and his family live in England. Besides his direct assistance to the foundation, Mr. Turner sponsors four children in Help Liberia Foundation School.

Concerning the construction work, a kitchen was built, and a two-room toilet is under construction. The kitchen is used to cook for the kids. The food is donated by the World Food Program – WFP. WFP gives monthly food ration to the school through ADRA – the Adventist Development & Relief Agency.

In summary, the following major things were done during the the renovation and construction work:

1. Five additional classrooms were created.
2. The administrative office was fixed and furnished, including the fixing of shelves for the school’s books.
3.Two rooms were fixed and set aside as storerooms. The school’s food ration, cooking utensils and other items are kept in them.
4.New desks were fixed for the newly created classrooms.
5.Additional blackboards were bought and placed in the new classrooms.
6.A kitchen was built.

Our next major goal is to purchase a plot of land on which we will construct a real school building for the kids, as the current building, although quite good for the operation of a school, was not built as a school building. We have already identified a plot of land, but we don’t have the funds available. We will accept any assistance rendered the foundation in this direction.
