WFP Gives Food to HLF School

Posted by Help Liberia Foundation on January 02, 2008

The World Food Program, WFP, is now donating food ration to Help Liberia Foundation School. The food ration, which is donated to the school monthly, comprises wheat, beans, oil and salt.

The monthly consignment of food reaches the school through ADRA – the Adventist Development & Relief Agency. ADRA is an implementing partner of WFP. Periodic monitoring exercises are conducted by both ADRA and WFP agents. The purpose is to check whether the school follows the guidelines set by the two institutions. There were problems such as the lack of a kitchen and a good storeroom, but these problems have been solved.

Help Liberia Foundation is extremely grateful to WFP and its implementing partner – ADRA – for the regular donation of the food. Although the food is meant for the kids, the staff also benefit from the program.

It is also important to mention that the food ration, which enables the school to cook for the children every school day, is helping not only to increase school enrollment, but also to regularize daily attendance.

On the other hand, the food program is not without some problems. For instance, we need funds to purchase plates, cups, spoons, etc., for the kids to use, many of which they usually spoil or misplace. Besides, we have to buy items such as fish or meat, maggi cubes, pepper, wood or char coal and many other items on a daily basis, but we don’t have the financial strength. The lack of funds for these things serves as an impediment to the feeding program in Help Liberia Foundation School. We are therefore appealing to all individuals and institutions of good will to assist the school in whatever way they can in feeding the kids.

Because of the food ration the school is receiving from the World Food Program through ADRA, the foundation is encouraging partial sponsorship at the moment, and not full sponsorship. Since partial sponsorship is all about paying for the child’s education, and education only, and since our goal is to give education to as many children as possible, we encourage our sponsors and would-be sponsors to choose partial sponsorship in deciding to help a child go to school. Partial sponsorship is $7.00 per month.

The school address is:
