One of our main objectives is to help give education to as many Liberian children as possible, especially disadvantaged children of the Liberian society, and we have been doing this since the foundation was formed in 2003.
We have been able to help – and are helping – many children mainly because of the good-will gesture of several individuals who willingly choose and agree to help disadvantaged children in Liberia through our Child-Sponsorship Program. We have Europeans, Americans, Africans, etc., who have committed themselves to helping the kids by paying their yearly tuition, which is $7 per month.
But there is another assistance from the sponsors to the kids and their families. Besides paying the tuition for the kids they sponsor, most of the sponsors purchase uniforms, food, clothes, shoes, copybooks, soaps, etc., for the children periodically. Moreover, some of them send money for gifts for the kids every Christmas season. The sponsored kids have become part of the sponsors’ lives.
A few weeks ago, for example, Mr. Turner of England, a sponsor of four children in our school, wrote to the foundation, “I have sent some amount for additional uniforms, shoes and equipment for my kids. I am sure they are growing fast.” Another sponsor, Justina – a Polish national, asked, “How is my little child in HLF School? I hope she’s doing well in school.” These are just two examples of how sponsors, although faraway from the kids geographically, are so compassionately and passionately attached to them.
The fact of the matter is that the periodic purchasing of needed items for the kids is something that brings great joy and satisfaction to the children and relief to their parents. On behalf of the kids and their parents, we express profound thanks to all the sponsors.
We would like to encourage other individuals and institutions to participate in the effort to help educate underprivileged children in Africa. Interested individuals or institutions may choose a child from the Child-Sponsorship section on our website, or contact the foundation to find a child.
