Our school in Africa, Help Liberia Foundation Community School, had its official closing program for the 2008/2009 academic year about two weeks ago.
The program, which was held at the Jubilee Worship Center (a church) in Buchanan City, brought together not only students and staff, but also parents and residents of the community.
The closing ceremony comprised speeches, dramas, songs, recitations, marching, presentation of certificates and many other activities.
Representative Gabriel B. Smith of Grand Bassa County, a member of the Liberian National Legislature, was invited to serve as the keynote speaker, but could not attend because of busy schedule. He, however, sent an assistant, Mr. Moses Bryant, to speak on his behalf. He spoke on the importance of education, and encouraged the pupils to focus on their education no matter what.
The most important part of the ceremony was the graduation of sixteen pre-primary pupils, among whom were nine girls and seven boys. The graduating children were led into the hall by Mrs. Lorietta Whea, Coordinator of the Pre-primary Department of our school. The sixteen kids received their graduating certificates amidst pageantry and photo taking.
Meanwhile, the 2009/2010 school year will start next month – September. Our foundation’s goal is to help provide education to underprivileged Liberian children, especially those from low-income, unemployed and poor families.
As we, through the assistance of many other good-will individuals, do our best to give a better future to these disadvantaged children, we welcome any assistance from any one out there who would like to help the children through the foundation.
You may decide to sponsor one of the needy children on our website, or you may contribute to our school construction project.
