The meeting was opened by the Principal of the school, Mrs. Iwona Jamro, who talked about the difficult situations of many children of the world, especially children in Africa. In her speech, she tried to make the students realize how happy they are, here in Poland, where education is compulsory and every child can go to school for free. Then she introduced HLF’s staff, represented by Mrs. Anna Dobrowolska, the President of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Paul Y. Harry, the Executive Director.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Iwona Jamro, is opening the program, as Mr. Harry looks on.
Mr. Harry told the students about Liberia – its geographical location, climate, educational system, problems the countries faces, etc. He also compared the situation in Liberia to that of Poland. After his speech, the students asked numerous questions. They wanted to know everything: what kind of food people eat, what games children play, what currency is used, how one cooks snakes, etc.
Mr Paul Harry is talking about Liberia. Mrs. Anna Dobrowowlska is interpreting.
The presentation was accompanied by African music and an exhibition of pictures from Liberia (where the students could see Liberian villages, schools, children, refugee camps as well as plants, including some that are used for cooking traditional Liberian dishes), African handcraft, and clothes. Everyone could play the sankpa (a kind of a drum) and different rattlers.
The children are attentively listening to Mr. Harry.
Students, teachers and administrators attended the meeting. The children collected some money, which they later donated to the foundation. At the end of the exercise, the school presented an open invitation to the foundation to come back to the school next year for similar exercise.
